NR-DHCA Meetings, Litter Pick-Up, and Newsletter Links

New River/Desert Hills Community Association (NR/DHCA) Community Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of every month and held at the Crossroads Christian Fellowship (42425 N. New River Rd., New River, Arizona),  start at 7:30 PM, and end by 9:00 PM unless otherwise noted.  Everyone is welcomed.

  • Tuesday, Feb. 14 7:30 PMAPS work in Desert Hills. The APS representatives will be coming back to provide updates and hear from you about the proposed new 69KV lines along 7th Ave north of Carefree Hwy to Desert Hills Drive; along Desert Hills Drive from 7th Ave to 12th Street; and along 12th Street from Desert Hills Drive to the APS Galvin Peak substation.

APS has already made some changes to their plans:
    • Will consider using the "rust" color poles instead of the silver
    • Will consider placing the new poles on the east side (same side that now has 12KV poles)
    • In most cases, replace the existing poles with the new taller poles (minimize density of poles)

APS reports that the new higher voltage poles are needed to ensure delivery of power in the future to the north valley (not just our area).  State regulations (Corporate Commission) prohibit APS from constructing underground lines unless the "client" (e.g. developer, county, city, etc) pays the difference between overhead and underground.

We would like as many of you to attend and voice our community’s concerns about the need for us to be included in the project planning prior to beginning construction. Our intention is to establish a format for discussion and negotiation to include this and all future projects in the New River/Desert Hills area.

  • This is a FREE event. NR/DHCA invites everyone to attend. For more information, contact NR/DHCA at 602-432-2800, 602-525-0548. You may also find more information at www.nrdhca.org.

Reminder – To be a member with full benefits, the 2012 NR/DHCA Memberships fees ($20 per family are due!!  Join or renew now.  Dues paid now are good until Dec. 31, 2012.

Come and let NR/DHCA know what issues you want NR/DHCA to address for our community and how you can help. Help NR/DHCA remain a fresh, vital, and relevant part of the community in their effort to preserve your rural community.

  • Tuesday, March 13 7:30 PM:  Dr. Rodrigo Silva, Assistant County Manager for Community Collaboration and Director of the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control Unit (MCACC).

Dr. Silva will have information on MCACC services such as their Licensing, Adoptions, Rabies Vaccinations, Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (MC SNAP) and the Neuter Scooter. Let the New River/Desert Hills Community Association know if you have any specific MCACC questions or issues.

MCACC’s approach to delivering animal care and control services reflects the delicate balance that exists between animal welfare and animal control. They strive to be proactive and offer programs to prevent problems before they occur. MCACC’s mission is to promote and protect the health, safety, and welfare of people and pets in Maricopa County.
